WENDY’S BOYCOTT FAST AND ACTION – On January 18, join United Church of Christ General Minister and President Rev. John Dorhauer, author and public theologian Brian McLaren, and faith leaders from around the country in a National Day of Fasting and Witness in protest of Wendy’s executives’ ongoing refusal to join the Fair Food Program. The fast will take place on the 20th anniversary of the breaking of the 30-day hunger strike undertaken by six workers in 1998, when the Coalition of Immokalee Workers was calling for a dialogue with growers to end poverty and violence in the fields. The hunger strike was finally broken when former President Jimmy Carter and Bishop John Nevins of the Catholic Diocese of Venice intervened, and called upon people to join with farmworkers to bring justice to U.S. agriculture.

Stuff the Bus – Help Feed Fairfax Families!

Stuff the Bus

As the holiday decorations come down and the cold winter months settle in, many people continue to go hungry in our community. For many local, nonprofit food pantries, this is the time of year where donations drop to one of their lowest points. To help address this need, Fairfax County annually hosts the Stuff the Bus food drive program. This collaborative program, now in its eighth year, is a partnership among Fairfax County Government, local grocery stores and nonprofit food pantries to restock the shelves.

Fairfax County will host 14 separate events between January 13 and February 24, 2018. Each week a Fastran bus staffed by MV Transportation personnel will park at a different location and collect food donations. All donation hours are from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

SET-UP & REFRESHMENTS!
If you can arrive about 20-25 minutes early or stay a little later, we are in need of volunteers to SET UP and BREAK DOWN.  Set up consists of placing the seating, bulletins, hymnals, preparing the social hour area, etc.  Break down is the reverse. We also NEED REFRESHMENTS each Sunday for the Social Hour after church.  Please bring what you are willing to share and we will do the rest.
